At Fortescue’s Cloudbreak Mine Ore Processing facility, the “screening” process MCC is supplied from an ungrounded power system, providing power distribution, protection and control for 25 motors. Earth fault detection in ungrounded power systems does not allow the identification of a faulty feeder and thus all 25 motors must be isolated should an earth fault be detected, resulting in full process interruption.
What we did
Captech, as the Bender representative in Australia, provided a solution using a Bender Insulation Monitoring and Earth Fault Location System. The system is capable of identifying a faulty feeder in the event of an earth fault without any interruption to the screening process, providing an alarm and feedback to an operator via a HMI panel.
Captech proposed, installed and commissioned the system, which comprised of two insulation monitoring devices, an IRDH575, three earth fault evaluators, EDS460 and condition monitor CP700.
